The Anda-Ground Operation that Could Save Ashoka University

Amidst the multiple controversies Ashoka University has found itself engrossed in– including but not limited to issues surrounding academic freedom, money laundering, the housing crisis etc.– the one that caused the most discontent amongst the student body was the admin-induced ban on the Chaat Street’s beloved rolls. While the reasons behind this out-of-the-blue decision remain unspecified, it has been speculated that the admin suggested a chaat place should stick to selling chaat.

While student’s mourn the loss of the sixty rupee godsend that was the egg roll, one can feel food joints across campus trying their hardest to fill the void left behind by this sudden change. From THC’s Instagram post announcing their new and updated egg roll, to angry students questioning Rasananda by saying “Aapne hi band karwaye na rolls chaat place ke? Aap ras ke alawa sab bechte ho humne kuch bola kya?”, the outrage is palpable. “It’s a liberal arts university,” another student says, “you are forcing English majors to take Economics and Science foundation courses, but you draw the line at a chaat place selling rolls?”

While the student body has written enough emails to easily outnumber the number of students showing up for teach-ins, action is yet to be taken. Our suggestion to the chaat place would be to show their rebellious side and continue the sale of the beloved role through ‘anda’-the-table dealings.

This hypothetical Anda-ground Operation must be carefully crafted, away from the evil glimpses of Roti & Boti – where the smoke of Sonipat grows thin, the revolution begins. Of course, we can’t disclose the confidential latitude and longitude coordinates, but all we can say is, when you need the egg roll the most, it shall find you. So, lose all hope and perhaps, it will all roll into place.

Think of it as a rebirth or renaissance of sorts, with the admin as the Catholic Church. The pressure to lift Ashoka out of the dark ages is put upon the delicious shoulders of an egg roll. In order for the revival of affordable, edible food that the university seems so adamant on shutting down, students need to come together and fight for a cause that truly matters.

After all, what is more significant— The Renaissance or egg rolls sold by the Chaat Place?
